Aviation Sector

  • India is the third fastest growing domestic aviation market in the world. Last year, it grew by 23%

  • Will be the third largest market for new aircrafts in Asia, behind China (1,790) and Japan (640)

  • 330 new planes are likely to be added to Indian skies in the next 15 years which would add 2.6 lakh seats a day on domestic flights

  • Over the next 2 decades, India is envisaged to be one of the largest Aerospace Markets in the world for wide and narrow body aircrafts

  • Indian aerospace and defense industry is emerging as a key player in the Asia Pacific aerospace and defense market

Port & Shipping Sector

  • 95% by volume and 70% by value of the country’s trade is carried through maritime transport

  • Major policy decisions taken to modernize existing ports.

  • The Indian shipping industry consists of about 616 ships, with a total capacity of 6.62 million tons Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT). About 258 ships in all are engaged in overseas trade and the rest ply inland routes.

  • Private sector participation in major ports picking up.

  • There are already about 55 shipping companies in the sector, of which 19 deal exclusively in coastal trade, and 29 are engaged in overseas trade. The rest operate in both types of trade.

Automotive Sector

  • India is currently ranked 2nd after China for preferred destinations for Automotive Design Engineering due to its strong potential for engineering design off-shoring abilities

  • 5 out of the top 10 automobile manufactures of the world already operating in India with almost 5,000 million dollars of design spend, out of which at least 50% is expected to be absorbed by Indian design firms
