India requires 800,000 MW of power to sustain the high
economic growth trend it started four years back. However, our achievement in
the last two five year plans has been dismal. But, the present five year plan
has brought a renewed enthusiasm which promises creation of employment
opportunities in the power sector - generation, transmission, distribution,
equipment manufacturing, electrical appliances industry, research training and
consultancy etc. The existing managers in the power and the related sectors are
set to be the largest gainers, provided they orient themselves to the changing
environment.
